According to the World Oil Network reported on August 18, Norway's national oil company (Equinor) has made a new discovery in the Troll/Fram area in the northern North Sea. This is the ninth successful well in 12 attempts in the area since 2019. Production estimates range from 9 million to 35 million barrels of oil equivalent. The discovery includes oil and gas, mostly oil. The licensee believes the discovery has commercial value and will consider connecting with other discoveries and existing infrastructure in the area. An exploration well with a sidetrack has been drilled in the Crino/Muder prospect, approximately 4 km west of the Fram field and approximately 130 km northwest of Bergen. The well was drilled by a deep-sea Stavanger rig. Equinor is the operator of the license, with Var Energi, INPEX Idemitsu Norge and Neptune Energy Norge as partners. Geir, Equinor's senior vice president of Exploration and production for the West, said: "It is positive that we can still make such discoveries in an area with good oil and gas infrastructure, allowing these discoveries to be developed at low cost and in a low carbon emission environment." The eight previous discoveries in the region were Eschino South, Swisher, Rover North, Bratto, Topan, Kwekje, Rover South, and Heisenberg.
