South Africa's state-owned oil company SFF has completed an aerial survey of oil reserves in South Sudan's Jonglei state. SFF has signed a contract with South Sudan's Nile Oil Company to jointly develop the B2 Block oil area in Jonglei State.

Last week, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa paid a state visit to South Sudan. During this period, the SFF delegation visited Bor, the capital of Jonglei State. Trivedi, head of the SFF delegation, said the geological survey was completed in March, covering an area of 47,000 square kilometers, which is also the largest survey ever conducted in South Sudan. Trivedi also revealed that three South African companies, including SFF, are planning to set up a new South African national oil company, and SFF CEO Godfrey has been appointed as the interim CEO of the new company. Trivedi said that in addition to oil cooperation, South Africa will also cooperate with South Sudan in areas such as mining. Bernard, general manager of Nile Oil Company, expressed confidence in the cooperation between the two sides and will fully support the implementation of the project.

In May 2019, South Sudan's Ministry of Oil and South Africa's Department of Energy signed an exploration and development agreement in Jonglei State's B2 area with a project value of $50 million and a six-year project cycle.
