China's first set of home-made deep-water Christmas trees put into use in Hainan

China national Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced on June 14 that it has put into use China's first domestically produced deepwater Christmas tree as it successfully completed a test operation of an subsea gas well in Yinggehai, Hainan province. This indicates that China has the ability to design, build and apply complete sets of deepwater Christmas tree equipment, which is of great significance to ensure national energy security and promote the high-quality development of China's offshore oil industry.

Christmas tree is a core component of subsea production systems and the basis for subsea production strings. The 55-ton Christmas tree is made up of more than 2,500 components that can safely isolate reservoirs and ensure downhole safety.

Wang Dongjin, chairman of CNOOC, said that cnooc's technology R&D team would speed up the development process of supporting equipment for deep-sea oil and gas subsea production system and promote the wide application of high-tech domestic equipment in the exploration and development of offshore oil and gas resources on the basis of China's first domestically produced deep-water subsea production tree. To improve the domestic energy self-sufficiency rate, to ensure national energy security to provide more reliable equipment support.
